Good Writing Gone Wrong

Yesterday when Sophie was doing her homework, she wrote a fairly long story about when we went to the Stock Show on Sunday. Afterwards, she said she had a really bad headache right in the front of her head above her eyes. She said it was too much writing and it hurt her brain. So I gave her Tylenol & tucked her in bed to rest.

She soon fell asleep but I woke her up for dinner & to see how the head was (we were supposed to go to their school's 'Spirit Night' at Chick-Fil-A). I gave her a couple of pieces of pizza & she thought her head felt better & good enough to go. She did not want to miss Spirit Night...her teacher was serving drinks from 6-6:30 and what kid can pass up the chance to see their teacher not only out in the real world, but also making the drink you order!!
So we went over and got drinks & ice cream & said "hi" to her teacher and "don't quit your day job" when she made 2 more drinks than we ordered.

When we got home, Sophie said she was cold so bundled up and then after about 1/2 hour, she cried and cried because her head now hurt all across the back and that she was so hot. I took her temperature and it was 100.9 so we sent her straight to bed. She fell asleep right away & slept most of the night. This morning her temp was still over 100 so I kept her home from school--the first time in her school career.

Anyway, the point is, even this morning she said her head hurts because of all the writing she did yesterday and never wants to write about the Stock Show again.

Another Good Writer

Turns out Emma didn't win the writing contest her teacher entered her in before Christmas, but she wanted to surprise her and honor her efforts anyway. So today she invited me to come watch while Emma read her story to her class and then the principal presented her with a certificate from the CCIRA.
The certificate says:
This is to certify that Emma... has submitted an original manuscript to the Colorado Council of the International Reading Association for consideration in the Young Writers' Award and has received this commendation for such effort."

Big words for Job Well Done.

For not knowing about this presentation beforehand, she was very calm, cool and collected, read slowly and loudly and stood when she was supposed to stand and shook hands with the principal. It's like she's been doing this for years.
The kids in the class listened quietly and even answered questions her teacher asked them afterwards about her story. It was cool & I was oh so proud!

Good Writers

Sophie's classroom has a center where they write letters to people. That is her favorite school activity (besides playground and gym). She loves writing and is great at sounding out her words. Here is a letter she wrote to us last week....love it!!

"Dear Mom and dad.

We lrnd ubout wut good wrieders do. Good wrieders yeoos inchresting wrds. Good wriedrs poot spasis buten ther wrds and I dnt memembr the rest."
