why?
Oh why won't those kids let me come out & play hide and go seek with them?!? I'm a real good seeker...

Oh-so there's where winter went!
Winter Park!
It just so happened that we were in Winter Park on Mary Jane's birthday. And Winter Park just happened to be hosting a fun-filled birthday weekend in her honor which included; ice sculptures, a parade down Main Street, bonfires, sledding and s'mores at the park, lighting and releasing "wish lanterns," cupcakes, and fireworks. We added a little lasagna, outdoor hot-tubbing in the snowy evenings, shopping, and tubing...and Mother Nature added plenty of snow, to make the celebration complete!
Happy Birthday, Mary Jane.
Thanks for surprising us with your special day--it was a blast!

(the little white dots are snowflakes, the big orange thing is a wish lantern taking off, and the glowing-green is a street light)

This morning, we woke up to sideways-blowing snow.
"Ugh," said the drivers.
"Yippee," said the skiers.
Karen & Mark grabbed their skis & dashed to the slopes for 1/2 day before heading home

Þorrablót
Yum. Need I say more? Today was the day of Steve's substitute solstice stew celebration...but we pretended it was a...one of those celebrations named up there in my title line. In case you're rusty on your Þorrablót traditions, Steve provided this definition in his invitation: "The Þorrablót is an evening with dinner where participants hold speeches and recite poems, originally to honor the Norse god Thor, after whom the month is presumed to be named."
We weren't sure what one wears to Þorrablót...is it helmets with horns...fur-lined leather boots? Or is that not acceptable until after Memorial Day? We can never remember! So, we went winter-casual and brought the ever-traditional offering of fudge to tempt Thor's taste buds. The girls wrote and brought their best original poetic efforts to share after we filled our tummies with delicious stew.
It was Þorrablót-tastic!!

Karen's funny dog poem (containing a questionable four letter F-Word that rhymes with Smart)...was a big hit

tough love
This poster appeared on our bedroom door...a message for Bob (from Sophie & Julia) to stop the chewing tobacco already. He quit, for awhile, but the stress of his job has driven him back to "using" again. The girls thought he might need a warning about what his future may hold if he keeps it up. Black gums, scratches & dents...how's that for a PSA!?! He's been warned!
