We like to stretch out our birthdays around here...
Sophie turned 8. Julia is 6 going on 13.

Love Sophie!

So that's what a hamster cake is supposed to look like...

8 is great!

Happy Birthday, Dear Sophie. Happy Birthday to you!!!

Sophie decided all she wanted for her birthday this year was a hamster. I like it when things are so clearly spelled out!!

A couple of weeks ago, Karen discovered a herd of hamsters up for adoption at the Boulder Humane Society so I sneaked up there on Wednesday to rescue a couple of them. Home I came with two of the most adorable Roborovski dwarf hamsters ever! After hiding them in the laundry room for a couple of days, this morning we tricked the birthday girl by putting the cage on the table with a toy hamster inside to make her think the toy was her gift. She was perfectly happy with the toy hamster until we brought out the box of real hamsters from the cupboard. Mission accomplished!! Teehee.

Marshmellow (we think)
Marshmellow and Daisy
Our hamster book says that 'Robo' dwarf hamsters are the smallest and fastest breed in the hamster world. So we've been spending lots of time learning proper cage closing techniques!! Nobody wants the smallest, fastest hamster running loose in the house (except the cats...and maybe the dog)!!
And yes, those are supposed to be hamsters on her cake. I had a few issues trying to frost angel food cake in addition to being artistically challenged!!

Gotta Be Jazzzzzzzzz

Emma's 5th grade class performed their spring musical today. They were all very impressive--spoke clearly and loudly, knew all their lines and dance moves, and performed with great enthusiasm. And all without guidance from the music teacher...(thanks to ALL those EARLY morning practices!!)

The big finish
(Emma is 2nd row-3rd from your left--behind Captain Spazzy Boy in the front row)

Karen & Mark's Excellent Adventure

Karen and Mark just got a new...and very excellent...camper trailer. So since Karen's birthday is Tuesday, they invited everyone over for an awesome birthday lunch/camper party. So cool!!

Plenty of storage

no camper party would be complete without outdoor crafts--Emma made a little raft (sticks tied together with grass) for the bird bath and Sophie made herself a grass necklace!

101.1

This morning Julia woke up with a fever and felt pretty crummy so she spent the morning lounging, eating mini popsicles and trying to get better while Sophie went on their Girl Scout tour of the neighborhood fire station. Julia was sad to miss that but she really doesn't want to miss Easter festivities tomorrow so a lounging day it is.
