Emma-Orchestra 4/24/14

Here are just a couple more songs from Emma's concert if you're interested.  They did a cool number at the end where all the kids played and then each class (freshmen followed by sophomores then juniors) left the stage leaving just the seniors to play the end of the song...so touching.  Yes, it was a 2 kleenex concert...and I don't even have a senior!!
I'll try to put that on youtube sometime & let you know the link if you'd like to see it (Karen).

12

Sophie's birthday height measurement on the back of our basement door today put her at just one inch below Emma's age 13 height.  Watch out, Emma, she's coming for you!!

Sophie had a great 12th birthday & I get to spend the day with her tomorrow for Take Your Child to Work Day...good to have a post-birthday day off to recover from all the fun!
Hope all her wishes come true!!

Happy Easter!

napping in the sun with your friend is nice
until your friend spots a squirrel
then you're on your own

oh really?

I feel so liberated.  Emma just informed me that you no longer have to type the "www." when entering a website URL.  What will they think of next!?!  Feels so wrong & I still have trouble not typing it those three little letters but maybe someday...

On another, more festive note...it's that time of year again & we've been up to our usual sheggnanigans again. Happy Easter weekend!

King?  Guess that's what happens when you let the only guy in the house decorate his own egg...

All Easter dresses must pass the swirl test.  Julia's passed!  Does it get any better than that!?!
(Pay no attention to the Minnie Pearl tag on the shoe...they're new.  We're just happy we could end the shoe hunt--almost as difficult as the dress hunt!!  Now bring on the egg hunt!!)

what a way to spend a day

Sophie hand-sewing a quilt in her jammies (at 4:00 in the afternoon) with the dog by her side...

whew

After so much practice, and so many nerves, we can all finally breathe again! Emma performed a solo in today's CHSAA Music Festival (which is essentially a state competition for musicians) & earned a "Solo Superior" ranking. Way to go Emma!!
Nervous practice beforehand--
Medal for Solo Superior--
Here is her performance which the judge called "very beautiful" and gave her a 1--the highest rank out of 4!  She also gave her some great insight on her technique & some tips to work on for next time.
All in all, a great (superior, even) experience!   :)

On the Radio

Julia's 5th grade musical was tonight and man did the kids do a great job.  She's been practicing so hard & was really excited to perform her two dance numbers...Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy & Footloose.  The music teacher said to picture them as they were in their first Kindergarten performance so many years ago (to see how much they've changed)...sniffle...thanks for that!!
Couldn't find a photo of her kindergarten performance on my computer but here's her last day of Kindergarten (with her teacher)...so you can feel my pain...haha

dresses & custard

We spent the afternoon scouting out an Easter dress for Julia.  You wouldn't think a 10-year old would be so very particular...and that the supply of decent fancy'ish dresses for 10-year olds would be so very slim.  But we finally found "the one."  And we knew it was "the one" by the spotlight shining on it from the heavens and the choir of angels filling our hearts with joy.
We girls are all actually pretty jealous and wish it would have been available in our sizes, but it must have been her destiny.  Lucky her!
We followed up our shopping outing with some custard sundaes from Freddie's.  Be jealous...it was the most delicious custard...ever!  We were heartily blessed today!

nesting

Sophie decided that her parakeet could use a nice, cozy nest in his cage so she whipped one up out of fleece and sewed it right onto the bars!!!  Looks pretty cozy to me--maybe she'd make me one for the corner of my room!?!  He's been eyeing it but hasn't ventured inside yet...
