Track

Sophie had her first track meet this weekend. She did great in her events--(2nd in standing long jump, 4th in softball throw and 1st in the 50 meter relay) but she was a little discouraged about having to wait so long in between events. In fact, afterwards she announced that she doesn't need to go to any more track meets. She said she's happy with just going to track practice.
Now Bob is wondering how none of his sporty genes participated in the formation of any of his children. Oh well--Julia says she wants to run track next year...maybe there's still hope!!
But for the time being...GO Sophie!!

I think I had a weird dream like this once...

This scene is just surreal...Emma dancing, Edith Piaf singing, weird guy on tv chowing down hot wings, Bob glued to the tv and little girls chatting...it's no wonder I can't think straight anymore... Just another rainy summer night at our house...welcome to my world.

Dino Daddy

For Father's Day, we tried to hike/picnic at a place called Lair o'the Bear Park but as it turned out, we got a late start and the parking lot was jam-packed full o'fathers.
So we ended up at Dinosaur Ridge in Morrison to check out the cool fossilized dinosaur footprints. It is amazing to think that the mountains were once a flat swampland...hard to imagine!!

That's a lot of angst for seven...

Sophie just wrote (and performed) this song...our budding Country & Western singer/songwriter...or maybe it's the blues...?

("You Broke My Heart"
You broke my heart
It hurt so bad
I can't help it
Now I'm going to break yours more than mine
More than mine
I want to push you into a lake I'm so heart broken
Oh you broke my heart.
Yow)
The "Yow" in the performance was quite an unexpected ending--especially when combined with a fancy Elvis-style pointing move. Every good song should have a heart-felt "yow" at the end!!

Park

The city is building a brand new park on a hill near our house. It has a great play area and since it sits on top of the highest hill around, it has awesome panoramic views. We could even see Pikes Peak way off in the distance (100 miles away)...until the police came by and let us (and others playing there) know that the park is still a construction zone (they are laying sod) and we should mosey on our way...they should probably hang a couple signs to that effect. Oh well...

Oh Mighty Isis

Right before we almost got hauled away to the pokey

Oh, Hail No

We had quite the little thunder-rumbler roll through this afternoon. Nothing like the eardrum breaker we had the other night, but we got a little hail out of it...nothing damaging (tell that to my tomato plants)...but enough to make a little 'hailman.'
We just couldn't resist...

46

46? Wow.
Today is Bob's birthday. His day was filled with a little early morning golf, a Saltgrass rib-eye for lunch, some flower planting, an early evening tornado warning (which, thankfully, missed us again), a new episode of Deadliest Catch and his favorite, German chocolate cake.
What could be better than that?!?

Happy Birthday, Bob!!!

Hours of Fun

On Thursday, hours of fun arrived on our driveway in 3 big, heavy boxes and yesterday we managed to empty those boxes and assemble our new trampoline (with the help of Mark who was the only one tall enough to finish the task of tying on the enclosure--and handy enough to read some not-so-clear directions!!)

Anyway, it wasn't too bad to assemble and the girls spent 4 hours yesterday and a couple more today trying it out. Like I said...hours and hours and hours of fun!!

p.s.
I don't remember being so out of breath after jumping on a trampoline...I guess I need a few more hours of practice before it becomes hours of fun for me!!)

Justin Boots

When in Justin, buy boots.

We always hear people talking about "Justin Boots" at the Stock Show every year. We assumed they were named after a guy named Justin. But after getting lost on the way back from Fort Worth, we passed through Justin, TX where they had outlet stores for none other than...Justin Boots. Emma thought she needed some for her upcoming horse camp and we found a bargain pair for Sophie too. Thanks to Aunt Pam, the girls are even outfitted with their own 10-gallon hats (which we shipped home...they just arrived today--THANKS Aunt Pam!!!).

The girls feel like they got some serious Texas souvenirs...and won't they all be ready when the stock show rolls into town again!! Yeehaw!!
