first & lasts

Julia has always loved school.  When her sisters got to go off to their first day of elementary school and she was stuck at home just waiting for her turn she was so sad...

Then it was finally her turn...Kindergarten!  

Tonight was her commencement ceremony...into elementary school for one last time...

Farewell elementary...on to middle...let the adventure begin!

(Julia & her friend Maggie...they already have a deal if Julia gets a top locker & Maggie gets a bottom, they're gonna switch for sure)

Sophie's induction to National Junior Honor Society was this evening.  Go Sophie!!!  You Rock!!!!!
(Of course, my camera decided to tell me "one moment" several times at the beginning of reciting the oath...so rude...but here's most of it...)

We had to have photographic proof that our plum tree did, in fact, start to create plums this year for the first time since we've had it.  Tomorrow we're supposed to get wet, heavy snow which might knock them all right off so we wanted to remember the joyous occasion that was almost plum jam.  C'est la vie!  Maybe it will just rain instead...?!?

Crash & burn...a dad who wakes up every day at 4:15 to beat rush hour in to work & a kid who stays up late stressing & doing homework were so done with the day yesterday!  Only 2 more weeks to go, guys!  Hang in there!

Kusimama

Julia was in our school district's Elementary Honor Choir.  Kids from each school auditioned, and their teachers chose the top 2 kids from each 5th grade class to sing together in one choir.  Julia has been practicing with her own classmates for about 2 weeks (the kids mostly learned the songs on her own from a CD) and only had one day-long practice with the whole group (all day today before the concert).  They really sounded amazing!  Kusimama is Swahili for Stand Tall & it's mostly in Swahili except for a bit of English in the middle.  Her group is in the blue/grey (looks purple'ish in the video) behind the piano.  A very cool experience!!
